Timeline. 1452. Leonardo Da Vinci is born near the village of Vinci in Italy. 1466. Leonardo becomes apprentice to Vercocchio. 1472. Leonardoās work is loved so much that he is asked to join the Painters' Guild of Florence. 1482. Da Vinci moves to Milan.
Notaries. The Vinci family can be traced back to 1339. Leonardo's male ancestors had been respected notaries in Florence for generations. One member of the family, Leonardo's great-grandfather Ser Piero da Vinci, had made it to the position of notary public of the Florentine city government, even becoming envoy of the Republic of Florence.
